Old Navy One Day Wonder $1 Flip Flops for Everyone

We finally have nice spring weather, time to break out the flip flops. Need some new, or want some hot colors then tomorrow's the day. Old Navy is having it's annual One Day Wonder Sale with $1 Flip Flops for everyone on Saturday, May 21. 

These sales are usually crazy. Think Black Friday. Stores open at 7 a.m., but call ahead to verify. There will be really long lines to checkout and there's a limit of five per customer. 

I haven't checked the price on Old Navy flip flops this year, but last year the regular price was $1.59 or 2/$1.50, so a savings of only $0.50 was not worth the hassle.

While Old Navy flip flops are probably better, Dollar Tree had flip flops last time I was there. I'm assuming they were $1 each, although I didn't stop to check. Just something to consider.

Baskin Robbins 31 Cent Scoop Night TONIGHT

The annual Baskin Robbins 31 Cents Scoop Night is tonight from 5 to 10 p.m. Each scoop is only 31 cents and there is a limit of three scoops per person. While you can get a great deal on ice cream, they will ask that you donate to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Enjoy some ice cream and contribute to a good cause.

What NOT to Buy

From the "What NOT to Buy" file. While these shoes are eye catching and might be a great buy for someone who frequents clubs or has more money than sense, they're not practical for everyone. Yes, yes, I get that they're not meant to be practical. 

In addition to these shoes, might I recommend that you don't buy anything online that costs more than you would pay in store. An example? How about today's $40 General Mills Sample Pack Groupon for only $20. That's a savings of ONLY 50 percent. I don't know about you, but for me saving only 50 percent on processed, packaged food is no bargain. General Mills products go on sale a lot and there are a lot of insert and printable coupons available for these items. 

If you would normally buy all or most of these products, it might be a fair deal for you, but for most of us, we can do a much better job at the grocery with coupons and sales. 

What about the coupon booklet you say? Well, I don't as a rule pay for coupons, beyond buying the Sunday paper. Unless they provide FREE product coupons or a fair number of high-value coupons, this deal is a dud and I'd rather buy the shoes. Sometimes saving is about what you don't buy.

To Shop Online or Not Shop Online. That is the Question

You won't find many online deals here. I don't shop online much so it's not my area of expertise. However, I do make select online purchases when I find the best possible deal is online or when I want a product I can't find anywhere else. For example, I purchase printer ink cartridges, vitamins, of course there's Ebay for auto parts and some others I can't remember right now. I'll share those with you as I make purchases.

My advice for shopping online, Google the store and/or product you would like to buy along with the word "coupon" you'll find all kinds of coupon codes and online deals. 

My favorite resource for online savings is Ebates. Sign up and search for the store or product you would like. You'll find Ebates will give you cash back for most online stores. Basically it's an "electronic rebate." Ebates cash back really adds up. Over the past few years, I've received more than $200 back on my online purchases by always purchasing through Ebates. $200 back over several years is quite a lot for someone who doesn't shop online much.
